Pleated Filter Cartridges
Pleated filter cartridges have a very wide range of applications and are characterized by:
- Large filter surface area
- High flow rates
- Low differential pressure
- Nominal to absolute rated efficiencies
About this product
Pleated filter cartridges are an ideal solution for applications requiring high dirt-holding capacity and/or high flow rates. Their pleated construction creates a significantly larger filtration surface area compared with conventional cylindrical filter cartridges, resulting in increased throughput and extended service life.
Pleated filter cartridges are available in a wide range of filter media, including polypropylene (PP), polyethersulfone (PES), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and glass fibre (GF), allowing them to be matched to a variety of process conditions and chemical compatibility requirements.
In many cases, pleated filter cartridges can also be used to increase the capacity of an existing filtration system without the need to replace the filter housing. By replacing a conventional wound or meltblown cartridge with a pleated cartridge of the same dimensions, the increased filtration surface area can often deliver higher flow rates, longer service intervals, and lower operating costs.
Bacterial filter cartridges
Bacterial filter cartridges, also known as sterile filter cartridges or membrane filter cartridges, are specifically designed to remove bacteria and other microorganisms from liquids and gases. Depending on the application requirements and chemical compatibility, either hydrophilic or hydrophobic membrane media are utilised, with filtration ratings typically ranging from 0.1 µm to 1.2 µm.
The bacterial retention performance of membrane filters is validated using recognised challenge organisms under controlled test conditions. For example, 0.2 µm sterilising-grade membrane filters are commonly validated using Brevundimonas diminuta, a bacterium specifically selected due to its small size and suitability for bacterial retention testing. Filter performance is typically demonstrated at bacterial challenge levels exceeding a Log Reduction Value (LRV) of 7.
Techno Filter bacterial filter cartridges undergo extensive validation and quality control procedures. Each membrane filter cartridge is individually traceable through batch identification, ensuring full product traceability and compliance with the stringent requirements of industries such as pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, food and beverage production, and other critical process applications.
The combination of validated retention performance, full traceability, and high-quality membrane technology makes bacterial filter cartridges the preferred choice for applications requiring sterile or microbiologically controlled filtration.
Integrity testing of bacterial filter cartridges
Techno Filter supplies validated pleated membrane filter cartridges that can be integrity tested to verify their performance and retention characteristics.
During transport, storage, installation, and operation, filter cartridges can become damaged or compromised. Regular integrity testing provides assurance that the filter remains fully functional and continues to meet the required retention specifications. By verifying filter integrity, the risk of contamination passing to the clean side of the filtration system can be significantly reduced.
Integrity testing is widely used in critical applications within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and beverage, and microelectronics industries, where product quality and process security are of paramount importance. Common test methods include diffusion flow, pressure hold, and bubble point testing, depending on the membrane type and application.
Techno Filter can perform integrity testing either on-site or at our laboratory in Culemborg, the Netherlands, providing documented verification of filter performance and compliance.
For applications where membrane filtration is required but formal validation or integrity testing is not necessary, more economical membrane filter cartridge options are also available. Please contact our filtration specialists to discuss the most suitable solution for your process.
