Special Filter Bags
Special filter bags include all filter bags that fall outside the standard. Think of the following filter bags:
- Extended life filter bags
- Absolute filter bags
- Water-absorbing filter bags
- Oil-adsorbing filter bags
- Multi-layer filter bags
Because many customers have their own requirements regarding a filtration solution, there are also special filter bags, for example, because oil or water is present in the liquid and this is undesirable for the process. Other reasons may be that the standard filter bags are not efficient enough or do not last long enough.
Extended life filter bags
Extended-life filter bags are specifically engineered to provide significantly longer service life than conventional filter bags. They are commonly used in industrial filtration applications where minimising maintenance, reducing downtime, and lowering operating costs are key objectives.
Through the use of advanced multi-layer media constructions and optimised contaminant retention, extended-life filter bags can typically achieve service lives that are two to five times longer than standard filter bags, depending on the application and contaminant load.
The increased dirt-holding capacity allows more contaminants to be retained before replacement is required, reducing the frequency of filter change-outs and helping to maintain stable process operation.
Absolute filter bags
Absolute filter bags provide highly accurate and reliable filtration for applications where product quality, process protection, and consistent particle retention are critical. Unlike nominal-rated filter bags, which remove only a percentage of particles at a given size, absolute filter bags are designed to achieve a defined filtration efficiency of up to 99.9% at their specified micron rating.
In many industrial processes, the passage of even a small number of particles can result in product contamination, equipment damage, reduced product quality, or process interruptions. For these applications, absolute filtration provides the assurance that critical particle removal requirements are consistently met.
Absolute filter bags are commonly used to protect sensitive downstream equipment, comply with stringent quality standards, and maintain product consistency across a wide range of industrial processes.
The combination of precise particle retention, predictable filtration performance, and high process reliability makes absolute filter bags an ideal solution for critical filtration applications where filtration performance cannot be left to chance.
Water-absorbing filter bags
Water-absorbing filter bags are specialist filtration solutions designed to remove both solid contaminants and free water from hydrocarbon-based fluids. They are commonly used in fuel, oil, lubrication, and hydraulic systems where the presence of water can lead to corrosion, reduced equipment reliability, and decreased process efficiency.
The filter media performs two functions simultaneously. Solid particles are removed through mechanical filtration, while a specialised absorbent layer captures and retains water from the process fluid. This allows the purified fluid to pass through the filter bag while water and particulate contamination are effectively removed.
Water-absorbing filter bags typically utilise a multi-layer construction, with outer layers providing particle filtration and inner absorbent layers dedicated to water removal. This combination provides effective contaminant control while helping to protect sensitive equipment and extend system service life.
Typical applications include the protection of pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, fuel handling equipment, and storage systems where water contamination can adversely affect performance, product quality, or operational reliability.
Olie-adsorbing filter bags
Oil-absorbing filter bags are specialist filtration solutions designed to remove free and dispersed hydrocarbons from liquids while simultaneously retaining solid contaminants. They are commonly used in industrial and environmental applications where oil contamination can affect process performance, equipment reliability, or discharge compliance.
The filter media combines particulate filtration with oil-absorbing technology. Solid contaminants are captured within the filter structure, while hydrocarbons are selectively absorbed and retained by the specialist media. This dual-function design enables the efficient removal of both particulate and oil contamination within a single filtration stage.
Oil-absorbing filter bags are particularly effective in applications involving contaminated water, process fluids, cooling water, and industrial wastewater. By reducing hydrocarbon contamination, they help protect downstream equipment, improve process reliability, and minimise maintenance requirements.
Typical applications include wastewater treatment, vehicle wash facilities, tank farms, industrial process water systems, and environmental remediation projects where the removal of oil contamination is required.
Multi-Layer filter bags
Multi-layer filter bags are designed to deliver enhanced filtration efficiency and extended service life compared with conventional single-layer filter bags. By combining multiple filtration layers with progressively finer fibre structures, these filter bags provide excellent particle retention, high dirt-holding capacity, and stable differential pressure characteristics.
The graded media construction allows larger particles to be captured in the outer layers while finer contaminants are retained deeper within the filter media. This optimises contaminant distribution throughout the filter bag, helping to maximise service life and reduce premature blinding of the filter surface.
Suitable for a wide range of industrial liquid filtration applications, multi-layer filter bags can help reduce filter change-out frequency, minimise downtime, and lower overall operating costs while maintaining reliable filtration performance.
Available in a variety of materials and micron ratings, multi-layer filter bags can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of your process and application.
