Sanitary Filter Housings
Sanitary filter housings are designed for hygienic filtration applications where product quality, product safety, and cleanability are of critical importance. They are widely used in industries such as food and beverage production, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, cosmetics, and high-purity process applications.
These filter housings are specifically engineered to meet stringent hygienic requirements and are used in processes where internal cleanability and contamination control are essential.
Techno Filter sanitary filter housings are manufactured in accordance with hygienic design principles and feature smooth internal surfaces, high-quality polished welds, and dead-leg-free construction wherever possible. This design minimises the risk of product build-up and microbial growth while facilitating effective cleaning and sterilisation procedures.
Fully compatible with CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilise-in-Place) processes, sanitary filter housings provide safe, repeatable, and reliable filtration performance in critical hygienic applications.
Applications of sanitary filter housings
Our sanitary filter housings are suitable for the filtration of a wide range of hygienic process fluids, including:
- Drinking water and process water
- Beer, wine, and soft drinks
- Juices and dairy products
- Syrups, flavourings, and food ingredients
- Pharmaceutical liquids and process solutions
- High-purity process fluids
Thanks to their hygienic design, smooth internal surfaces, and high-quality finish, sanitary filter housings help minimise the risk of product contamination while maintaining consistent product quality and process integrity.
They are particularly well suited to applications operating under stringent cleaning, validation, and regulatory requirements, where reliable and repeatable filtration performance is essential.
Sanitary vent filter housings
In addition to liquid filtration, Techno Filter supplies sanitary filter housings for tank ventilation and aeration applications. These systems prevent dust, microorganisms, and other airborne contaminants from entering the process through tank vents and breathing systems, helping to maintain product quality and process integrity.
Sanitary vent filter housings are commonly installed on storage tanks, process vessels, mixing tanks, and fermenters within hygienically critical environments. They are designed for use with sterile air and gas filter cartridges, ensuring that incoming air is effectively filtered before entering the vessel.
To support hygienic operation and validation requirements, sanitary vent filter housings can be integrated into CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilise-in-Place) procedures. This enables reliable contamination control while maintaining the high standards of cleanliness required in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other high-purity applications.
Materials and surface finish (Ra 0.8 – 0.4 µm)
Sanitary filter housings are typically manufactured from stainless steel 316L and are available with internal surface finishes ranging from Ra 0.8 µm to Ra 0.4 µm, depending on the application requirements and hygienic standards.
The smooth surface finish promotes excellent cleanability, minimises product adhesion, and reduces the risk of microbial retention, making these housings particularly suitable for hygienically critical processes.
Depending on the design and sealing materials used, sanitary filter housings are suitable for operating pressures of approximately 10–16 bar and temperatures up to 150–200°C.
Optional features include electropolished surfaces, specialist sealing materials, enhanced surface finishes, and custom-engineered designs to meet specific process, validation, and regulatory requirements.
Hygienic connections, Closures, and CIP/SIP compatibility
Our sanitary stainless steel filter housings are available with a range of hygienic connection options, including:
- Tri-Clamp
- DIN couplings
- SMS couplings
- Dairy (milk) couplings
To facilitate safe and efficient maintenance, filter housings can be equipped with quick-opening clamp closures or other hygienic closure systems, depending on the application requirements.
Integrated vent and drain connections support controlled filling, venting, draining, and cleaning procedures. Combined with full CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilise-in-Place) compatibility, these features help ensure efficient operation, reliable cleaning, and the highest standards of hygienic process control.
Single and Multi-element sanitary filter housings
Techno Filter supplies both single-element and multi-element sanitary filter housings. Multi-element configurations allow multiple filter cartridges or modules to operate in parallel, providing increased flow capacity, extended service intervals, and improved process efficiency.
These systems are particularly well suited to continuous production environments where high flow rates, process reliability, and stringent hygiene standards are essential.
Filter elements and filtration area
The type of filter element used—such as filter cartridges or lenticular filter modules—and the available filtration area have a direct influence on flow rate, dirt-holding capacity, and service life.
By selecting the appropriate combination of filtration rating, filter element size, and number of filter elements, the filtration system can be optimised to meet the specific process requirements, performance objectives, and hygiene standards of the application.
Single-Round Sanitary Filter Housings:
Compliance with laws, regulations, and hygienic standards
All sanitary filter housings are manufactured in accordance with applicable legislation, standards, and industry requirements, including the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) where applicable, as well as relevant hygienic standards and material compliance requirements.
Depending on the housing design, surface finish, and sealing materials selected, sanitary filter housings can be supplied to meet standards and guidelines such as EHEDG and FDA requirements.
This ensures that your filtration system meets the necessary safety, quality, hygiene, and regulatory requirements for reliable operation in critical hygienic applications.
