Stainless Steel Filter Cartridges
Stainless steel filter cartridges are robust depth filters designed for demanding filtration applications involving high temperatures, aggressive chemicals, and harsh operating conditions. Their durable construction allows them to be cleaned and reused, providing a cost-effective and sustainable filtration solution.
Techno Filter offers stainless steel filter cartridges in three main configurations:
- Sintered powder
- Sintered mesh
- Sintered fibre
About this product
Stainless steel filter cartridges offer a number of unique advantages compared with conventional polymer-based filter cartridges. One of the most significant benefits is their exceptional temperature resistance, with operating temperatures typically ranging from -150°C to +300°C, depending on the cartridge construction and application.
In addition to their excellent thermal stability, stainless steel filter cartridges provide outstanding resistance to aggressive chemicals, solvents, and process fluids, making them ideal for demanding applications within the petrochemical, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, and energy industries.
Their robust construction also allows them to withstand high differential pressures and challenging operating conditions where conventional filter media may not be suitable.
Unlike disposable filter cartridges, stainless steel filter cartridges can be cleaned and reused multiple times using a variety of cleaning methods. The available cleaning methods and recommended maintenance procedures are explained later on this page.
Sintered Mesh filter cartridges
Techno Filter sintered mesh filter cartridges are manufactured from upto five layers of stainless steel 316L mesh, which are permanently bonded together through a sintering process. This construction combines excellent mechanical strength with high filtration efficiency and reliable performance under demanding operating conditions.
The five-layer structure consists of a protective layer, a drainage layer, a primary filtration layer, and two reinforcing layers. These layers are sintered into a single, robust filtration medium, providing exceptional structural integrity and consistent filtration performance.
Sintered mesh filter cartridges are available in both cylindrical and pleated configurations. A wide range of standard dimensions and end connections are available, while custom-designed solutions can also be supplied to meet specific application requirements.
- Filtration surface area: 0.05m² per 10” Cylindrical / 0.135m² per 10” Pleated
- Operating temperature: -150°C to +300°C
- Micron ratings: 2 to 840 µm nominal
- Maximum working pressure: 6 bar forward flow Cylindrical / 25 bar forward flow Pleated (with support cage)
Sintered Fibre filter cartridges
Techno Filter sintered fibre filter cartridges combine a highly porous stainless steel microfibre filtration medium with a robust stainless steel support structure. This advanced construction delivers absolute-rated filtration performance, high dirt-holding capacity, and low differential pressure, making these cartridges particularly suitable for critical filtration applications.
The stainless steel microfibre media provides a filtration efficiency of Beta 5000 (99.98%), ensuring reliable removal of fine particulate contaminants while maintaining excellent flow characteristics. The fully welded construction eliminates the risk of media migration, offers outstanding chemical compatibility, and provides exceptional mechanical strength under demanding operating conditions.
Sintered fibre filter cartridges are available in a wide range of standard dimensions and end configurations, with custom-engineered designs available for specialised applications.
- Filtration surface area: 0.135m² per 10”
- Operating temperature: -150°C to +300°C
- Micron ratings: 3 to 60 µm absolute (Beta 5000)
Sintered Powder filter cartridges
Techno Filter sintered powder filter cartridges are specifically designed for demanding filtration applications involving high temperatures, high pressures, and aggressive process conditions. Manufactured from metal powders that are compacted and sintered into a rigid porous structure, these cartridges provide exceptional mechanical strength and reliable filtration performance.
Compared with sintered fibre media, sintered powder cartridges generally offer lower permeability and flow rates, but their robust construction enables them to withstand extreme operating conditions, making them an ideal choice for critical industrial processes.
A wide range of standard dimensions and end configurations are available, while custom-engineered solutions can be supplied to meet specific application requirements.

Cleaning Stainless Steel filter cartridges
One of the key advantages of stainless steel filter cartridges is their ability to be cleaned and reused multiple times.
To ensure optimal cleaning performance and maintain the integrity of the filter media, appropriate cleaning procedures and precautions should always be followed.

This process involves passing a clean fluid, compressed air, or nitrogen through the filter cartridge in the opposite direction to normal flow.
Contaminants that have accumulated on the surface of the filter media can be dislodged and removed from the cartridge. This method is particularly effective when the majority of contaminants are retained on the surface of the filter element rather than deep within the filter structure.
The reverse flow pressure should be carefully controlled to avoid damaging the filter media.
By using carefully selected solvents, acids, alkalis, or other cleaning agents, deposits adhering to the stainless steel filter cartridge can be loosened, dissolved, or removed from the filter media.
Ultrasonic cleaning is an effective method for removing contaminants from the surface of stainless steel filter cartridges. The process involves immersing the filter cartridge in a bath of cleaning fluid while high-frequency sound waves generate microscopic bubbles within the liquid.
Ultrasonic cleaning is particularly effective for removing fine particles and surface deposits. However, contaminants trapped deep within the filter media may not be completely removed by ultrasonic cleaning alone and may require additional cleaning methods, such as reverse flow or chemical cleaning.
In certain applications, thermal cleaning can be an effective method for restoring stainless steel filter cartridges. This process involves heating the filter cartridge to a controlled temperature in order to decompose, burn off, or loosen contaminants retained within the filter media.
